Moving the mats

The mats are moved, ready for the first class at the new venue. My thanks to Hugh, Nigel (and his family) and Mairi for their invaluable assistance.

On Friday Mairi and I erected a mat storage box in the cupboard off the side of the Owen Barnes room. It's a bit cramped and we've only got the space for the one set of mats at present but it will have to do.

On Saturday we all met up at the Bob Carter Centre and managed - with a bit of a squeeze - to get all the mats in Hugh's van and my car so it was only a single trip to get the mats to the new venue. As I said , we're short of storage so we've only got 45 mats (out of the 50 at the Bob Carter Centre). When the Council provides the additional storage we can put up another mat storage box and bring in all the other mats to give us 80 in all.
The mats we have are 1m2 which means they're about half the size of a traditional Japanese tatami so our full-size mat, when we have it, will be the equivalent of a 40 tatami mat.

I'm not sure just when the additional storage is going to be available, it may not be before September now so we'll just have to see how things go.
