I've had an email from one of the BAB groups and I'll pass on the basic details here.

The Aikido Development Society are running a BAB Coach Level 1 course on the 5th and 6th of February 2011.

The course will be at one of their East London Dojos close to the A406 and M11.

They still have a few places left and anyone who would like to get on the course should contact the tutor Steve Billett.

The times they give are 09:00 - 16:00 Saturday and Sunday, and a price of £50.00 which they hope to be able to lower if they get enough numbers.

Forecasts of freezing fog put quite a few people off on Monday evening.

Others have ended up with injuries, shift work and other work commitments.

All in all this meant that only one student turned up (Hi Jon) so I decided that we'd cancel the class, neither of us fancying scraping ice off cars after class and then driving home in freezing fog.

If the weather looks this bad again I'm definitely going to text the members and make sure that there's going to be enough to make it worth while running a class. I'd much rather have stayed by the fire myself last night :-).

The spell of snow and freezing conditions caused us to cancel the class for the 29th November.

With the overnight snowfall and the freezing conditions during the day and with more snow forecast for overnight I thought it best to text all the members to see just who was likely to be coming to the class on Monday evening.

Even though I'd requested people to let me know if they were coming, by 3:00pm I'd had enough people replying to say that they wouldn't be coming that I simply cancelled the class.

According to the Met Office we're due for a fortnight of this weather but, hopefully, by next Monday either it will have eased off or we'll have got enough used to it to cope with it and we'll not have to cancel next week too.

Mat storeThe promised additional storage facility has now been provided by Costessey PC. It takes the form of a small Portakabin (actually a recycled toilet block) standing at the back of the Owen Barnes Room. It's not the most glamorous store I've ever seen but, as a Costessey resident, I'm happy to see the Council keeping costs down :-).

The store is of a pretty substantial construction and has a couple of Chub 4 lever locks on the door. Only ourselves and the Parent and Toddlers group will have access to this store and we are...

There have been some changes to the 19 and 20 bus routes which served the New Costessey Centre.

Previously these were basically the same circular route running in opposite directions.

As of September 2010 this has changed. The number 20 route now only services Old Costessey and does not go past the New Costessey Centre any more.

The number 19 now goes out and back on the same route and stops outside the New Costessey Centre in both directions, so now you get the number 19 both to and from the New Costessey Centre.

There is also an additional 19A service which also goes past the New Costessey Centre.

Pleased check Eastern Counties Timetables for...

Monday 30th August is a Bank Holiday. Accordingly the Fudokai Aikido Dojo will not be holding a class - the next class will be Monday 6th September.

For homework members can practice 1st, 4th and 5th bokken suburi which Mike has been teaching over the past couple of weeks.

The BAB has announced details of their Annual National Course to be held in October. All BAB members (and this includes members of the Fudokai Aikido Dojo) are welcome to attend.

These courses have a selection of instructors from various national Aikdo groups so this is a good place to find out what the various organisations are about.

Nobuyoshi Tamura (8th Dan): 2nd March 1933 - 9th July 2010

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Nobuyoshi Tamura Sensei passed away on 9thJuly.

Apparently he had been suffering from pancreatic cancer and was hospitalised and operated on in April of this year.

Mike, Mairi and I, along with many others, regard this as an enormous loss to whole body of Aikido - Tamura sensei's Aikido was something very special.

I remember talking to Steve Beecham (then 4th dan) who commented that he had trained with many of top Japanese sensei but he could see...
